Setting the standard for IT in business premises
Yorkshire Forward has supported the development of ict active, a new national standard designed to help businesses select office premises that are properly equipped to meet their IT and communications requirements.
ict active – technology built in so that businesses can grow
Whether you are looking for your first office, or it’s time to relocate to bigger premises, it’s important to make sure that your new workplace is properly equipped to support the effective use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
With ict active, you don’t need to be a technology expert to choose office premises that are right for your business. ict active looks at everything from power supplies and cabling to internet connections and specialised services.
ict active also helps property owners and managers to benchmark their ICT offering and use it as a differentiator in a crowded marketplace. The scheme acts as a neutral point of reference which gives buyers and tenants all the information they need about the ICT capabilities of a property.
For any type of office space and any size of business
When your business moves into an ict active building, you can be confident that it has all the necessary infrastructure to support your IT and communications needs, now and as your business grows. ict active also looks at the IT-based services that are provided and makes sure that those are fit for purpose.
ict active can apply to both part-fitted and ready-to-occupy office space. It can even apply to offices that are still on the design board. To do this, it looks at the building, the technical infrastructure and the services that are available.
The ict active website provides fully searchable information on all the properties in the region that have achieved the standard. It also contains a wealth of useful information, including a Business ICT Checklist which details the kinds of questions you should ask when looking for new business premises.
Backed up by a British Standard
ict active was developed in Yorkshire and is now being rolled out across the region and beyond. As part of its development, Yorkshire Forward worked with the British Standards Institute to develop a new Publicly Available Specification (PAS). Published in April 2009, PAS 700 specifies the requirements for the provision of ICT facilities and services in a workplace and provides the basis for the ict active scheme.
