BITECIC (Biomaterials & Tissue Engineering CIC)

Few companies possess the in-house skills to develop biomaterial products from inception through to market, which is why BITECIC Ltd Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Centre of Industrial Collaboration) is so useful to so many companies. It combines the world-class expertise of over 100 researchers at Leeds, Sheffield and York Universities, as well as the active involvement of clinical collaborators at the University hospitals. The centre provides organisations with state-of-the-art facilities, dedicated project management and commercial know-how, services which have proven invaluable for companies working with orthopaedics, wound care, urology and cardiac or cardiovascular surgery.

Services include:

  • The “Future Vision” programme, helping companies understand the impact of emerging medical device technologies.
  • Applied research, product design and development of biomaterials, medical devices, biomimetic tissues and tissue engineered products.
  • Preclinical testing and evaluation, as well as performance analysis of clinical products and devices (including test facilities for orthopaedic implants and cardiovascular devices).
  • State-of-the-art proteomics, cell and tissue engineering facilities.

The Centre acts as a project management interface between industry and academia, working on a fee-for-service basis for analytical/testing requirements, or through partnership and collaboration.
