Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence

The Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence, helps companies develop commercially viable processes and products that reduce or replace the production and use of hazardous materials. It does so by providing a one-stop-shop for companies to access research being carried out at Leeds University, York University and The Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA) in York.

The Centre offers short-term problem solving and identification of opportunities for companies, short-term lab-based feasibility studies, and longer-term consultancy, development and lab-based research. Key industry sectors that benefit from the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence include paints, dyes, textiles, adhesives, agrochemicals, personal care, paper, pharmaceutical intermediates, plastics and speciality chemicals.

Services include:

  • A modern laboratory with a capacity for 30 researchers.
  • Walk-in fume cupboards for larger scale testing and the use of more sophisticated reactors and laboratory equipment.
  • A clean-technology multi-reactor facility for carrying out reactions under a variety of conditions and heating sources (including microwave, supercritical, high pressure and microscale).
  • En-suite chromatography, spectroscopy, thermal analysis and computing rooms.
  • A full workshop providing any special equipment required by Centre clients.
