Polymer CIC

To help companies exploit the vast potential of polymer research in the region the Yorkshire Forward Polymer Centre of Industrial Collaboration (CIC) has been established at the University of Bradford. A world-class research centre with great industrial experience, the Polymer CIC is a one-stop shop for businesses seeking support for innovation in process and product development. Recognised as a leader in in-process measurement, process control and optimisation, the centre channels its cutting edge research into business advantage.

In the electronics industry for example, new polymers are replacing semiconductors in electronic displays, and in biomedical applications biopolymers are playing a role in intelligent drug delivery and in creating artificial bone or skin.

Services include:

  • • Injection moulding facilities, extrusion lines, micromoulding, small scale in-line compounding and design of new process technology.
  • • Computer monitoring (melt temperatures, pressures, ultrasound, energy), process spectroscopy for material assessment (IR, Raman, UV fluorescence) and flow visualisation/ process imaging.
  • • Material and product characterisation (rheology, tensometry, imaging, laser scanning, AFM, surfaces, fibre orientation), and computer modelling of processes and products.
  • • Analysis, product design and extensive digital video facilities.
