The Facts

Despite the global downturn, foreign direct investment activity within our region continued at a strong pace during 2010/11. Yorkshire Forward has worked with the region’s Local Authorities to attract over £10m of private-sector investment and 82 inward investments into the region.

Yorkshire Forward’s work has meant that over 1,400 jobs have been created or safeguarded through investment activity in Yorkshire and Humber, this year.

The largest of these investments is Siemens, the world's biggest manufacturer of wind turbines, announcing that it has chosen Hull as the site for its new manufacturing plant. The multi-million pound investment at Alexandra Dock, off Hedon Road, east Hull, is expected to create over 800 direct jobs and will change the face of the region's industry.

This investment further enhances our region’s reputation for attracting vital R&D operations, particularly for the low-carbon economy.
