Use your sector skills council

The UK’s 25 sector skills councils (SSCs) cover over 85% of the UK workforce. SSCs are employer-led organisations set up by the government (licensed by the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills). They cover specific economic sectors within the UK.  

What do the SSCs do?

  • They boost the skills of the sector workforces
  • They reduce skills gaps and shortages
  • They improve productivity
  • They improve the supply and quality of learning opportunities.

How do they do it?

  • They design and approve the apprenticeship schemes
  • They develop national occupational standards
  • They broker sector skills agreements
  • They create sector qualification strategies.
