The LandSkills programme

The programme, part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE), has been set up to boost the technical skills of the region's agricultural, horticultural and forestry sectors. It is managed by Lantra, the sector skills council for the environmental and land-based sectors, which helps land-based businesses to improve their competitiveness.

Who is eligible?

The industries where businesses are eligible to benefit from LandSkills are:

  • Pastoral - Agricultural livestock
  • Arable - Both food and non-food crops
  • Production horticulture
  • Forestry
  • Food (in relation to supply-chain activity)

Which skills will the funding help to develop?

  • Practical and technical husbandry (i.e. livestock and food and non-food crop)
  • Management and business, including collaboration
  • Resource use, including waste reduction and management, water use, energy efficiency and bio-energy
  • Animal health and welfare
  • Supply chain efficiency
  • Benchmarking
  • Climate change adaptation and mitigation
  • Environmental land management topics
  • Training for primary processing in the agricultural and forestry sectors
