Property in North Yorkshire
We work with sub-regional public- and private-sector organisations to create economic opportunities as a result of development or redevelopment projects.
The North Yorkshire sub-region is diverse - it involves a large rural agenda; the city of York; a substantial part of the Leeds city-region; and a lengthy coastline with several towns. The property agenda, as always, is heavily influenced by the renaissance agenda, and the projects we’re working on include:
York
- University of York expansion at Heslington
- Science City York
- York Central
- Emerging brownfield sites
- Tourism-related projects.
Renaissance towns
- Scarborough
- Selby.
Renaissance market towns
- Richmond and Catterick
- Skipton and Settle
- Harrogate, Knaresborough and Boroughbridge
- Thirsk, Northallerton and Bedale
- Helmsley, Kirbymoorside and Pickering
- Malton and Norton.
York Central
About 30-35 hectares (75-85 acres) of land is available for development here, mixing with existing land uses including the station, the National Railway Museum, new houses at St Peter’s Quarter, and the Crescent. The site offers an opportunity to extend the central business district of York to increase the economic contribution of the area. Working with our partners Network Rail and the National Railway Museum to bring the site forward, we’re currently involved in detailed pre-development feasibility work, with a view to taking the site to the market for the private sector to deliver.
The project was taken to the market in July. A long list of development partners has been selected with a view to the selection of a preferred partner by spring 2009.
Sherburn and Colburn
These are two sites which have been brought forward for development by ensuring the correct infrastructure is in place. Through active marketing, the sites are now being developed by the private sector on a speculative basis, providing much-needed business accommodation in these areas.
