Property in West Yorkshire

Working closely with colleagues in rural and urban renaissance, the West Yorkshire Strategic Development and Property Team provides advice and direct support on a number of major projects. Such work includes:

Bradford

We are the main point of liaison with the Bradford Urban Regeneration Company (Bradford Centre Regeneration), helping to deliver the masterplan for the city centre.

This currently includes work on the Mirror Pool (Park at the Heart), the redevelopment of the former Odeon Cinema, the Bradford Channel Urban Village project, the Listerhills sustainable student-village project (tied into the Bradford University Ecoversity Project), and the relocation of the Magistrates’ Court to help with the creation of the new Business Forest.

The delivery of the Airedale and Manningham masterplans currently includes work on the relocation of Park Lane College, Keighley (and the redevelopment of their current sites as part of Keighley renaissance), business accommodation for the digital sector in Shipley, and the redevelopment of Manningham Mills. We are also working on the reclamation and development of the former Odsal Tip site for possible sport-village-related uses.

Wakefield

We work with the City of Wakefield Metropolitan Council on the delivery of the Wakefield City Renaissance Programme. This currently includes the redevelopment of the Wakefield Waterfront site; the redevelopment of the area surrounding Wakefield Westgate Station; the development of the new Trinity Walk retail scheme; and the implementation of a city-centre-wide public areas strategy.

Kirklees

The property team is directly responsible for the delivery of the redevelopment of St Peter’s Buildings, Huddersfield. The scheme will improve the perception of, and development confidence in, Huddersfield as a whole by:

  • Securing new employment space
  • Generating a new residential market within Huddersfield town centre
  • Creating public uses on the ground floor (offering retail and leisure facilities to provide life and animation at street level).

Calderdale

We've provided strategic advice and support to Yorkshire Forward’s urban and rural renaissance teams in delivering transformational projects in Halifax town centre and in the Upper Calder Valley.

Hopwood Lane, Halifax is an important central site within Halifax, with a combination of significant listed buildings and land which is being used unsuitably for its location. The new scheme will rebuild this part of Park Ward by carefully retaining the listed buildings, selectively demolishing certain structures and sympathetically building anew, all to an agreed masterplan for the entire site. We have assisted with the site assembly through strategic property acquisitions, worked with consultants in assessing market conditions, and analysed financial appraisals. We have selected a preferred developer jointly with Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council, and are currently working on detailed designs which will be submitted for planning shortly.
