Penistone Projects

Projects in Penistone include:

  • E-Learning Centre -  this opened in February 2007 and provides  ICT training to the residents of Penistone, other courses are also run in the centre. The centre was established in redundant space in the town’s library. Click here to find out more about this project.

  • Penistone Conservation Area Partnership Scheme – delivering improvements to key buildings in Penistone’s conservation area in partnership with English Heritage. This had two strands, the first was shop front improvements  and properties improved include 11a Market Place, 18 Market Place, 7 St Mary’s Street, 5 Market Street. The second helped to bring buildings back into use, such as Penistone National School, which is mentioned below. Click here to read more about this project.

  • Penistone Paramount Cinema – this cinema dates back to 1915 and retains many original features including the balcony. Improvements included new windows, painting and rendering. This was funded under the conservation scheme and also received funding from the UK Film Council. For more information about the cinema click here www.penistoneparamount.co.uk

  • Penistone National School – funded as part of the conservation scheme, this school for girls was built in 1822. The building was previously unused and is now let to Busy Bees and will house a pre-school. Click here to read more.
