Scarborough
Scarborough was one of the original Renaissance Towns in 2001. Advisors West 8 helped Scarborough to think about ‘place’, resulting in the development of the Scarborough Strategic Development Framework: Kissing Sleeping Beauty.
What is the strategy for Scarborough?
The plan is to broaden the economic base of the town to ensure quality year-round employment and opportunities for all. Scarborough’s beauty and location are suited to the digital and creative industries. Yorkshire Forward, Scarborough Borough Council and the Town Team are working together to deliver a step-change in the economic performance of the town.
How will this be realised?
- Creative Industries Centre—created to facilitate the development of the cultural and creative sector
- Spa—full refurbishment of the building, providing first-class conference and entertainment facilities
- Business park—capacity-building to accommodate business development
- Sandside and new marina pontoons—transforming public areas and creating a new floating marina in the inner harbour
- Rotunda—the reinvention of the iconic Rotunda Museum as a geological centre of international significance.
How much is being invested?
Approximately £30m is being invested in Scarborough’s renaissance, of which £7m comes from Yorkshire Forward.
