North-East Lincolnshire

What is the strategy for North-East Lincolnshire?

‘North-East Lincolnshire’ is the area around Grimsby. Grimsby has developed its 25-year plan with support from consultants Urban Initiatives

The vision is for Grimsby to become a more attractive, economically and socially desirable place in which to live, visit, work and play. The aim is to bring new life to the town centre and surrounding areas by creating more green space, high-quality buildings and public areas, and by rejuvenating the waterside and docks to bring more visitors to the area.

How will this be realised?

  • Cartergate—new high-quality buildings with various uses and the development of numerous public spaces; connecting the site into St James’ Square, the heart of the town centre and the residential areas.
  • St James’ Centre—a high-quality extension to St James’ Church for use as a meeting place for the local community
  • Victoria Street—a high-quality, safe and clean pedestrianised area with local public artwork and creative landscaping. The project will be a pilot scheme for a wireless technology broadband hot-spot in Grimsby town centre
  • Alexandra Dock—one of the major opportunities for Grimsby is to re-establish the historic connections to the docks and to develop new leisure areas in the town centre and next to the waterside. Alexandra Dock offers a great opportunity to exploit the location of the national fishing heritage centre
  • Fish docks—this area was once the economic heart of the town but has recently fallen into decline. An ambitious and major part of the vision for Grimsby is to develop new uses for the area, creating a vibrant docks area once again.

How much is being invested?

We’re investing around £10m in Grimsby’s renaissance.
