Selby
The Selby district was included in the third phase of Renaissance Towns, in 2004.
What is the strategy for Selby?
The Selby district is made up of three towns: Selby, Tadcaster and Sherburn in Elmet. They each have strong identities and loyal local communities. Each town has enormous potential to build on its strengths and achieve renaissance. The towns each have their own vision, as well as a vision for the combined area. Assisted by advisors Urbed, Selby published its Strategic Development Framework in 2006.
How will this be realised?
- Sherburn in Elmet’s core will be strengthened by improving public areas
- A masterplan to unify Tadcaster town centre
- Selby will become a 21st-century market town with a lively town centre, surrounded by high-quality housing and high-tech businesses.
How much is being invested?
Yorkshire Forward has allocated around £5m towards Selby’s renaissance.
The Facts
- Selby District has a population of around 23,000.
