LEADER

LEADER is a European Community initiative to assist rural communities to improve the quality of life and economic prosperity in their local area.

What is Yorkshire Forward’s involvement?

Yorkshire Forward is the regional development agency responsible for delivering the LEADER approach in Yorkshire & the Humber as part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE).

How does LEADER work?

LEADER brings  into one forum those people, organisations and individuals,  who have an interest in encouraging and supporting economic development. It’s a community-led approach to rural development, focusing on basic services for communities, culture and heritage, village development and renewal.

How to get involved

If you're interested in improving the quality of life and economic prosperity in your local area and would like to become involved with a LEADER group, we would advise you to:

  • Check the LEADER area map (below) to see if one of the six LEADER partnerships covers your area.
  • Make direct contact with the partnership which covers your area to discover how you (and your business, community, social or interest group, organisation, etc) can become involved in the LEADER process. The partnerships will be happy to tell you about the work which they have already undertaken and to explain how you can become involved with LEADER.
