Boroughbridge Projects
Renaissance Market Towns projects in Boroughbridge include:
- Ure Walks - Seven different walks have been established, each having an interpretation board and a specially designed leaflet. The walks are marked with coloured way-markers - a different colour for each walk. There has also been some supplementary tree planting in the area. Read more about this project here. The walks are:
- Boroughbridge (Aldborough)
- Devils Arrows
- Roecliffe
- Langthorpe
- Gt Ouseburn
- Lower Dunsforth
- Aldwark
- Improving the Offer – a joint initiative with Knaresborough town team, this scheme includes:
- Shared space – the creation of a community space next to the main car park in the centre of Boroughbridge. The Town Council will manage the space and should be contacted for bookings.
- Welcome to Excellence training programme –offering a range of training focused on the tourism business and also the voluntary and community sector. This enabled the groups to directly contribute to the ‘offer’ of Boroughbridge. The training was delivered under the ‘Welcome to Excellence’ programme with a focus on customer services for local businesses. In addition to the targeted training, a conference discussing the challenges of the recession was held and Janet Street Porter attended as the key note speaker.
- Property Improvement Grant scheme – grants made available to assist local businesses with property improvements. Eligible projects included shop front improvements and conversions of empty spaces.
- Rural Target Fund - small projects delivered by North Yorkshire County Council, funded by Yorkshire Forward’s RMT programme. These have included:
- Great Ouseburn Village Hall – ‘Raising the Roof’ scheme. This project is receiving funding from the Rural Target Fund. The aim is to improve the facilities at the Village Hall. Plans are well advanced and it hoped building will start in the near future.
- Ure Walks interpretation and signage – as above, seven walks have been established to attract visitors to the area. Read more about this project here.
