Skipton
Skipton is an attractive market town located at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, with excellent road and rail links. Its name is derived from the Saxon word for sheep; the town, which was once an important wool-trading centre, still holds regular livestock markets.
The arrival of the Leeds-Liverpool canal in 1770 brought major industrial growth, and established Skipton as a centre for cloth-making. Today, the town remains an important commercial and shopping destination for residents and visitors alike.

Skipton is linked to Leeds and Bradford via regular train services and is also on the famous Settle-Carlisle route. The town is close to the A65 (Leeds to the Lake District) and A59 (York to Liverpool).
