Red Riding showcases Yorkshire's film industry
Introduction
- millions of pounds spent in the region by production companies
- visitors travel from across the world to see film and TV locations
Summary
The critically acclaimed drama trilogy Red Riding were supported by Screen Yorkshire's Production Fund, which is funded by Yorkshire Forward. £100,000 was invested in each film. The three films total spend in the region (which includes spend not just on regional crew and facilities, but also accommodation, catering and other services) amounted to nearly £2.5 million. This clearly illustrates how worthwhile a comparatively small investment can be. The films, which were widely and unanimously acclaimed, also had a significant impact on raising the profile of the industry in the region.
Based on local writer David Peace's cult novels and starring Sean Bean, they were shot at locations across Yorkshire in 2008. The films have since been sold on to numerous territories including Greece, Portugal, Scandinavia, Poland, Baltics, The Middle East and Canada.
