Summary
Yorkshire Forward has helped to fund the new Regional Agricultural Centre at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, which opened in June 2009.
We contributed £0.5m for the purchase of sustainable building materials, making this a flagship building for green technologies. Environmentally friendly features include a timber frame, rainwater harvesting, a ground-source heat pump, solar roof panels, sheep’s wool insulation and a sedum roof.
The building is also a centre for rural/agricultural focus in the region, and a showcase for the promotion of high-quality food from the region. It contains the award-winning café Fodder (awarded Independent Retailer of the Year in the deliciouslyorkshire awards) and the Best of Yorkshire produce shop. There is office space for the staff at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, as well as shared workspace for not-for-profit agricultural organisations.
The Regional Agricultural Centre has won a number of awards, including the New Build category in the Harrogate Civic Society Design Awards and joint winner in the national Estates Gazette Green Awards (retail/leisure development category).
