Scunthorpe’s Pods & Central Park
Introduction
As part of the Yorkshire Forward Urban Renaissance programme, Scunthorpe Town Team is investing in new sports and leisure facilities for the town.
Summary
A new top-class sports centre is being created in Scunthorpe, thanks to the local authority and Scunthorpe Town Team and support from Yorkshire Forward. The Pods and Central Park will become a centre of excellence for sports and recreation, and a hub for sports education and leadership training.
The Pods will provide a range of modern facilities, including:
- A 25-metre swimming pool
- A training pool
- A state-of-the-art gym
- A dance studio
- A six-court sports hall
- A café and a crèche.
As part of the project, £2m will be spent on rejuvenating Central Park, with:
- A new £450,000 children's play area
- A pavilion and street furniture
- A boulevard through the park, linking the entrance and the Pods to the colleges
- A refurbished fountain
- An events area with an open-air amphitheatre for musical and theatrical events.
