The BUCS Championships is the highlight of the national sporting calendar for the best student athletes in the UK, and is a test-bed for current and future international athletes – many set to be household names by London 2012. The event has had two successful years in Sheffield and will return to the city for its third year in March 2010. The BUCS Championships 2010 take place on 10 – 14 March 2010 in Sheffield, and will see over 6,000 student athletes compete across 26 sports at 17 venues. The event also enlists the help of 150 sporting officials and 250 Sheffield-based volunteers. The BUCS Championships goes much wider than just the student populous. It is now a showcase for higher education sport and involves a number of commercial and non-commercial partners and supporters. Sheffield will take real advantage of the event taking place this year, in the best decade for sport in this country. As this activity will take place during the final build-up to the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, Sheffield will establish its credentials as a ‘must-visit’ city with real sporting legacy and help promote international sport and culture across Olympic themes. The event is supported by Yorkshire Forward, Sheffield City Council and Nike.
