Based in Featherstone, Chiorino UK is part of a large Italian group that manufactures specialised conveyor and transmission belts. One of 60 divisions worldwide, the Featherstone site has turnover of £5m and is an important part of the Chiorino worldwide network of supplies. Over the past 18 months, the company has been working hard to increase productivity, improve its sales and operations planning and eliminate quality issues. Working with MAS specialists Simon Lamb and Ralph Woodhead, the team has introduced a number of processes to help identify bottlenecks, improve layout and workflow on the shopfloor and introduce standard operating procedures. This has lead to a marked improvement in efficiency, quality and throughput across the whole plant. New systems and procedures have also been implemented to improve stock control, demand forecasting and the supply chain which in turn has improved on-time delivery. Regular management meetings have now been introduced and progress is monitored, highlighting issues or potential delays before they can escalate.
