The Rock Challenge 2009

11/07/2009 - 11/06/2009

The national final of The Rock Challenge will take place in the region on Saturday 11th July 2009 at the Sheffield Arena, possibly attracting the biggest audience The Rock Challenge has ever had in the UK.

The Rock Challenge - an international performing arts competition for schools and colleges, focuses on driving home positive messages about substance misuse and crime prevention by providing young people with the unique opportunity to experience the buzz of performing in a professional venue in front of  their peers, families and friends.

The challenge is for the students and their teachers to create and be involved  in their own production from conceptualisation through to the live performance. The challenge is also to be the best that they can without the use of nicotine, alcohol or other drugs, and there are penalties for anyone who fails that challenge on any event day and for their team too.

Feedback / research indicate that the concept works, with young people clamouring to return year after year to take part,  with improved relationships with teachers at school, with a reduction - or even cessation - of substance abuse by team members and with a lower incidence of substance abuse generally within participating schools.

Yorkshire Forward are proud sponsors of the event. This is a very important year for the UK organisation which is set to stage its first National Final. This inaugural event will take place at Sheffield Arena on July 11, 2009 possibly attracting the biggest audience the Rock Challenge has ever had in the UK.

The show will also hold the title of the largest ever Rock Challenge® held in the Northern Hemisphere. Potentially hosting 1200 performer’s and back stage crew members, this will be an amazing spectacle and opportunity for young people from across the country to really show what they can do when at their best.
