Former Vickers site to undergo £50m regeneration

The redevelopment of the 63-acre former Vickers tank factory in Leeds will create scores of jobs, along with community facilities and hundreds of new homes.

Who owns the site now?

The site has been purchased by Threadneedle Property Investments. Threadneedle aims to retain the legacy of this important piece of Leeds’ industrial history while creating a sustainable, vibrant community on the site.

What does the plan entail?

The 63-acre site (situated at Barnbow, between Crossgates and Garforth in Leeds) has already been granted outline planning permission. The redevelopment is expected to include:

  • up to 450 new homes
  • a new medical centre
  • retail units
  • business premises
  • a park 
  • an art-house cinema.

The scheme is a major project for the region and will be a catalyst for jobs and regeneration.

When were tanks last built at Barnbow?

The last Vickers tank rolled off the production line in 1998.
