Hull. The pride of Yorkshire & Humber
Enterprising Britain 2009 rewards the Pride of Hull initiative by declaring the city the most enterprising location in Yorkshire & Humber.
The Pride of Hull is an initiative by Hull City Council, supported by Hull Forward (the city’s economic development company) and One Hull Business Forum (the business arm of Hull’s local strategic partnership). It has improved infrastructure and conditions for growth – using business support, training, people and communities within the city.
What did the judges say?
“The Pride of Hull entry won the votes of the panel because the Hull team presented a seamless approach to the delivery of their enterprise agenda across the City.”
“We were impressed with the real partnership, working and commitment of the private and public sectors to genuinely work together as one across the City.
The awards
Enterprising Britain 2009 is a nationwide competition to find the UK’s most enterprising place.
Now in their fifth year, the Enterprising Britain awards give recognition to the places that have used enterprising means to transform their social environment and economic fortunes.
Hull achieved this distinction in a competition that was fiercely contested across the region. The organisers were Enterprise Insight, on behalf of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, in partnership with the Regional Development Agencies and Devolved Administrations.
And now?
With its culture of collaboration active in all sectors of industry, Hull seems destined to go from strength to strength. Possibly picking up a few more accolades along the way; pitting its successes against those of other cities across Britain. And perhaps even the rest of Europe.
Because, in October, the Enterprising Britain 2009 national winner will be announced. And that successful city will go on to compete against Europe’s finest the following spring. So who knows? Scarborough did Yorkshire proud by winning the European title last year. We wouldn’t rule out Hull becoming the new pride of Europe.
