Latin America opens the door to Yorkshire innovation
05/05/2010
Yorkshire companies will be showcasing cutting edge innovations in Latin America this month to highlight how their pioneering products are improving healthcare for patients around the world.
Attending Hospitalar – the largest medical exhibition in Latin America – five companies from the region will form part of the UK delegation to showcase British healthcare innovation to the 86,000 visitors and also look for new business and export opportunities across the region.
The companies, which include Surgical Innovations, Experia, Paxman Coolers, Neoligaments and Brandon Medical will all be supported by Medilink Yorkshire and Humber (Y&H), the organisation dedicated to the growth of the region’s Healthcare Technologies Sector and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).
Huddersfield-based Paxman Coolers will be showcasing their pioneering scalp cooler, which provides cancer patients with the best possible chance of retaining their hair whilst undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Figures show that on average 70-90% of patients who use Paxman Coolers award winning technology do not require a wig.
Operations Director Richard Paxman of Paxman Coolers, said: “Latin America is a target market for us and we are eager to look for partners in this region. The exhibition will allow us to platform our products on an international stage and establish links with potential business partners, enabling us to expand on our already buoyant overseas market.”
Sensory equipment specialist Experia from West Yorkshire will also be in attendance to highlight their range of sensory equipment to the Latin American market. Their interactive equipment provides a calming and stimulating learning environment for people of all ages and abilities and uses unique technology to produce a breathtaking combination of smells, light, vibration and video projection.
Managing Director of Experia Gareth Jones, said: “All our products have the same aim to offer innovation, accessibility and fun, regardless of the users’ age or ability. We combine creativity with the latest technologies and the result is a truly unique learning environment, which everyone can enjoy.
“I am looking forward to showcasing our range of pioneering technologies at Hospitalar 2010 and expanding our network of distributors and agents within Latin America.”
Attending the exhibition for the second year in a row will be Leeds based Surgical Innovations, who has recently been awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise under the Innovation category. Surgical Innovations aim to build on last year’s success and raise the profile of their pioneering range of Resposable® instrumentation - devices which combine both single use and reusable components to offer a cost effective but high quality solution.
The Hospitalar exhibition is taking place on 25 – 28th May 2010 in São Paulo, Brazil.
