Award-winning The Cooking School at Dean Clough has taken the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber’s membership total to 600.

The Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber has grown to be the second largest food group in the country, representing food and drink producers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and hospitality providers throughout the region.

The Cooking School, based at Dean Clough in Halifax, provides a comprehensive range of corporate, professional and lifestyle culinary classes. Special guest tutors have included James Martin, Gary Rhodes and is welcoming Gino D’ACampo and Brian Turner in 2010.

Executive Director of The Cooking School Anita Cormac OBE is one of the country’s most passionate advocates for good food through quality teaching. The Cooking School runs an education outreach programme aimed at schoolchildren, ‘Focus on Food’, delivering culinary tuition to over 40,000 pupils and training 2,000 teachers every year, on specially built Cooking Buses.

Anita says: “We joined the RFG to help raise our profile within the region and attend networking events. RFG works to promote quality, regional produce, which ties in perfectly with our Focus on Food Campaign, which aims to raise the profile and importance of cooking and healthy eating.”

RFG Chief Executive Jonathan Knight says: “To boast 600 of the region’s best food and drink companies within our membership is a huge achievement for us. We strive to meet the various needs of our members, from small producers to multinational corporations. The Cooking School at Dean Clough is an excellent example of the type of high quality companies we have in the region and we look forward to working closely with The Cooking School in the future.”

The Yorkshire Cooking Bus – one of five on the road nationally - will be touring the county throughout 2010. Visit www.focusonfood.org or www.thecookingschool.co.uk to find out more information.
