Biggest tourism event for Yorkshire

27/01/2010

A tourism event to be held in Yorkshire will be the industry's biggest in the UK, it has been revealed.
The Y 10 conference is being put on by Welcome to Yorkshire - the official tourism agency for the region - who will use the conference to announce ambitious plans for the year.
Celebrities and politicians will mix with industry and business chiefs at the March 22 event - which is expected to bring more than 1,000 people to the Harrogate International Centre.
Welcome to Yorkshire will also reveal tourism figures for 2009 at the conference. At present, the industry, which is valued at £6.3 billion, employs more than 250,000 people. Helping achieve the figures was a marketing and PR campaign launched by the organisation to promote the region as a holiday destination.
Gary Verity, Welcome to Yorkshire's chief executive, said: "Welcome to Yorkshire was launched at Y 09 and since then the region has experienced a more cohesive tourism approach and outshone other UK destinations by bucking national trends but we're not resting on our laurels, there's even more exciting news to come which will be announced at Y 10."
