BT to upgrade Yorkshire exchanges

Around 80,000 more businesses and homes will have access to super-fast broadband connections when the telephone exchanges in Bradford and Shipley are upgraded.
The exchanges at Low Moor and Shipley are among six to be upgraded by telecomms giant BT next year, aimed at linking people to fibre broadband connections.
After the changes have been made, more than 125,000 super-fast lines will be st-up in the region, boosting communication links for business and homes.
BT regional director for Yorkshire John Anderson said: "This is excellent news for Yorkshire and continues our tradition of being a leader in the provision and adoption of broadband technologies.
"Yorkshire and Humber is an enterprising and innovative region which will obtain maximum benefit from this latest major investment."
The plans are part of BT's £1.5 billion pledge to make super-fast fibre broadband available to 40% of the UK, equivalent to 10 million homes, by 2012.
Previous upgrades, including the Pudsey exchange, improved broadband services for more than 46,000 customers.
