A property and infrastructure consultancies firm has opened a new office in York and plans to expand operations over the next 15 months.
Capita Symonds, which will initially employ 12 people at the Tower Court, Oakdale Road office, will eventually focus on increasing the number of staff to 30.
The firm will be providing engineering services to the railways sector and plans to bring in a turnover of £3.5 million before 2012.
Ian Roberts, director, Capita Symonds, said: "As we are successfully bucking the national downturn trend thanks to contracts on major projects such as Crossrail, we're implementing ambitious plans to expand our operations across the country.
"As part of this strategy we will be establishing a strong presence in York which will enable us to further develop our business across the Yorkshire and Humberside region.
"Although we'll initially be specialising in projects across the rail sector, in order to facilitate our ambitious plans for growth we'll be offering a number of services such as civil and structural engineering, property, landscape and urban design, and project management to schemes across a wide range of sectors and industries.
"Capita Symonds has an enviable track record in establishing new offices across the North. For example, our Durham office, opened in 2003 with just eight staff, now has 42 employees and a turnover of £5m."
