Yorkshire-based social housing contractor Kier Building Maintenance has won the Business in the Community (BITC) Award and the Work Inspiration Award for providing valuable workplace experience to several young people.
The building firm's successful work experience programmes across Leeds, Sheffield and Hull, which helped over 67% of participants enter into training or employment, played a key role in it winning the awards.
Over 1,700 young people aged 16 to 19 years have participated in its projects to improve homes and gardens in their communities.
Kier's initiative in the City Stewardship programme, where burglary victims are provided a rapid response service by young people, was particularly highlighted by BITC assessors.
Simon Bullen, regional director of Kier Building Maintenance Yorkshire, said: "We are delighted to have been recognised for our work experience programmes. Kier believes that investing in the areas where it operates is essential to maximise the social and economic impact of its presence.
"Our work experience programmes aim to provide young people with valuable skills which will not only help them gain sustainable employment but also fill skills gaps in the local economy."
