Footballers back cancer charity

Sheffield's top football rivals have shown their support towards a "worthwhile cause" by launching a fundraising walk for a local cancer hospital.
Sheffield United legend Tony Currie, current players Matthew Lowton and Lee Williamson and Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Nicky Weaver attended the launch of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity's Walk As One event on Thursday.
They met fundraisers and key supporters of the 5 km sponsored walk in and around Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium.
Last year, Walk As One saw a participation of over 600, generating £45,000.
Lowton said: "On behalf of myself, Tony, Lee and Nicky, we are delighted to represent our football clubs to launch this event and we hope it will raise a lot of money for a really worthwhile cause.
"The Walk as One is a great way everybody can come together to do something to help the cancer charity."
The event will be held on Sunday, October 10.
Catherine Newman, senior fundraiser at Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, said: "Walk As One really is for one and all so we would like to encourage as many people as possible to sign up and join us - it doesn't matter which football club people support!"
The hospital is one of the only three dedicated cancer hospitals in the UK.
