Green light for £8m creative hub
23/07/2010
Yorkshire's creative industry is expected to get a big boost after approval was granted for a £8 million project that aims to attract and encourage entrepreneurs in the sector.
The Church View project, set to come up at the site of a former art college in Doncaster, will house studios, offices and workspaces in addition to conference halls and a bar.
It is owned by Doncaster Central Development Trust, which is hoping to turn the facility into a top class creative hub for businesses as well as members of the public.
Head of enterprise at Doncaster CDT, John Wright, said: "We hope it will attract back graduates who have left the town as well as local entrepreneurs who want a credible, creative setting in which to develop their business ideas."
The approval for the project came as the CBI called on the Government to give more support to the creative industries, which account for 8% of the UK's GDP.
Its new report, titled Creating Growth: A blueprint for the Creative Industries, has outlined ways in which the sector can be supported in the coming years.
