India success for Yorkshire company

India is being promoted by trade minister Lord Davies as a growing export market for Yorkshire companies.
He says: "India's talent, confidence, energy and entrepreneurial spirit must be seen to be believed," citing the achievement of York-based Pavers Shoes.
The company has named India as its main export market, and recently opened a flagship store at Chennai airport to capitalise on its growing success.
Says spokesman Mark Granger: "The development of our business in India, both in manufacturing through Paver Shoes and retail through Pavers England, is a cornerstone of our strategic growth plans.
"We aim to have as many as 10 own-brand Pavers England stores in airports and malls open by mid 2010, in addition to between 40 and 60 further Pavers concessions in locations all across India."
According to Lord Davies, the sub-continent "is on the move and we must move with it. UK firms must rethink India".
"It's been over a decade since outsourcing was the buzzword. Now innovative Indian and UK firms are working together at the top end of the industrial spectrum - on areas like pharmaceuticals, electronics and advanced manufacturing."
