Leeds firm in medical device deal
28/05/2010
Specialist medical instrument maker Surgical Innovations has won a five-year contract with Teleflex Medical.
The Leeds-based firm will produce articulating handles with bespoke laparoscopic instrumentation for Teleflex, which designs and manufactures medical devices for critical care and surgical applications.
Teleflex and Surgical Innovations have been working on the articulating reusable handles for two years now. The flexibility of the handles makes it easier to perform keyhole surgeries.
Though Surgical Innovations will have the full intellectual property (IP) rights for the machines, Teleflex is allowed to use the IP for the sale of the devices pursuant to the supply agreement.
The technology will be made available in Europe first, with a US expansion on the cards.
Graham Bowland, chief executive of Surgical Innovations, said: "This order represents an important milestone for our OEM business. We have been working successfully with Teleflex for more than 10 years and we are delighted to continue this successful relationship."
