More tourists visiting Yorkshire

Figures have shown that more people are heading to Yorkshire for holidays and days out.
The official tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire said that last year 31% more tourists visited the county than in 2008 - making it the UK's fastest-growing region for the sector.
The news came as figures showed that people visiting the county spent 13% more money during their 2009 stay than those in 2008. The statistics led Welcome to Yorkshire to predict that tourists would spend more than £744 million this year.
Gary Verity, Welcome to Yorkshire's chief executive, said the figures showed that Yorkshire outperformed other regions by giving people exactly what they wanted from a UK holiday. He also revealed plans to make Yorkshire the UK's number one destination for holidaymakers and day trippers in the competitive school holiday market.
He added: "Our aim is to keep Yorkshire in the hearts and minds of people looking to book half term activities, Easter breaks and their summer holidays. The next stage of our marketing campaign goes live this week and lets people know 'there's a great deal going on in Yorkshire'."
