New head for National Railway Museum

Steve Davies MBE has been appointed as the new director of The National Rail Museum in York, it has been announced.
He will join the museum in early 2010, from his current position as director of the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.
Mr Davies said: "We must ensure that it remains York's visitor attraction of choice and a jewel in the UK's national museums crown.
Before working in the museum sector, Mr Davies served in the Army. He developed a passion for the railway industry while in Sierra Leone, where he transformed a warehouse of railway artefacts into a museum. One of the exhibits was a carriage used by the Queen on a visit to the country in 1961.
Lord Waldegrave, chairman of the National Museum of Science and Industry, parent company of the National Rail Museum, said: "We are certain that Steve's vast experience, genuine enthusiasm for railways and impressive leadership skills will make him the perfect fit to meet the NRM's needs for the future."
