International award for Yorkshire-based innovative enterprise

NYnet Recognised for Role in Driving Local Economy
NYnet and broadband access solutions provider Occam Networks are celebrating after winning an award at the internationally recognised Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards (GTB) for the development of Scarborough Business Park which will create over a thousand new jobs in the next ten years.
The GTB awards celebrate the most innovative collaborations in the telecommunications industry impacting directly on their local community and economy.
Winning the ‘Business Service Innovation’ category NYnet was in good company with other winners including Orange, Talk Talk and Nokia Siemens Networks.
Some of the customers on the Scarborough Business Park; Pindars, Dale Power and Duraweld are already enjoying the benefits of the award winning high speed broadband connection from NYnet, seizing the business opportunities of the connection to help make their companies more efficient, innovative and competitive.
Scarborough also recently won the Grand Jury prize in the prestigious European Enterprise Awards recognising excellence in helping to transform the social and economic fortunes of the area improving economic prospects. Being one of the first in the UK to offer 100 Mbps bandwidth to its customers, NYnet, through the Scarborough Business Park, directly contributed to this award.
NYnet Chief Executive David Cullen, stated: “We are thrilled to receive this award in recognition of the innovations we are making throughout North Yorkshire but particularly at the Scarborough Business Park where, as a direct result of the connection, we have seen an increase in economic regeneration across the region.”
Chief Executive of Scarborough Borough Council Jim Dillon said: “This award reiterates that all the hard work and investment our partners are putting into Scarborough is being recognised nationally. Bringing high speed broadband to our town has definitely brought the profile of Scarborough to the forefront, but equally it is bringing economic wealth to the local people and businesses".
