General Briefings - July 2010

These reports contain data at Parliamentary Constituency, district and city-regional level on forecasts for GVA and productivity; statistics on local business and employment sectors; people’s opinions on their neighbourhood and engagement with local issues; and skills, demographic and income information.

Affordability Profiles - February 2010

Affordability identifies levels of economic commitment showing who spends more than they earn, who lives comfortably within their means and who might struggle most in changing economic conditions. This enables understanding beyond simple income levels, for example where people with lower incomes still live within their means or where higher income households are more stretched.

Impact of the Recession - July 2009 and December 2009

The most recent briefings published in July 2009 and December 2009, focus around the impact of the recession on Local Authority areas across Yorkshire and Humber. The CEU produced these briefings to give an overview of how the current economic downturn is affecting businesses and households.

The briefings look at change in GDP, GVA and productivity forecasts, as well as up to date survey results that demonstrate reactions to, and perceptions of, the recent economic recession from the point of view of both businesses and households. The briefings provide an overview of the region and local area including data at constituency level where possible.

The evidence shows how Local Authority areas are being affected compared to the region and sub-regions, and that there are indeed variances at constituency level illustrating how the effect of the recession is by no means the same for everyone, how different groups perceive the recession, and how differently they are reacting and changing their behaviour.

This information will help to understand the effects of the recession on local businesses and residents, as well as provide some insight into their current and future concerns, and how they are changing their spending patterns and the effect this may have on the local and regional economy.

Overview Briefings - December 2008 and February 2009

These give a general overview of the districts in terms of employment and business ownership, skills and training, income, perception of neighbourhood and local services.

Deprivation - June 2008

In 2007, the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) released a new version of the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). The IMD is a measure of deprivation at the small-area level, based on the idea of distinct dimensions of deprivation across the whole country.

Yorkshire Forward has looked at what this tells us about deprivation in our own region. Our regional reports compare us to the 2004 IMD, to other regions, and to the RES target—as well as providing an overview of city-regions and sub-regions. View the Yorkshire & Humber Deprivation Report (Regional Analysis of 2007 IMD) and the Deprivation Data Tables (a summary of data used in regional and local authority reports).
